The Anne Arundel Soil Conservation District participates in a variety of programs designed to educate the public in Anne Arundel County and throughout the State of Maryland about the issues facing our natural resources.

Anne Arundel County Envirothon

2021 Anne Arundel County Envirothon

There will not be a local Envirothon competition in 2021. However, local team(s) may participate in a virtual State competition. Multiple schools from each county are encouraged to participate in the state competition. Teams must consist of 5 students.

The 2021 State Envirothon will be a virtual even happening on the last week of April (April 26-30). The event is a week-long as one subject will be coved each day, i.e., Soils on Monday, Forestry on Tuesday, etc. More information and training videos are available on the State Envirothon website:

The Anne Arundel County Envirothon is a hands-on environmental problem-solving competition for high school-aged students. Participating teams complete training and testing in five natural resource categories: i.e., soils/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and current environmental issues. This years current topic is Water Resource Management: Local Control and Local Solutions.

The winner of the state competition will advance to the National Competition to be held in Lincoln, Nebraska July 25-31st.

This years winner of 2021 National Competition, taking the top prize of $15,000  are students from Esopus, New York.

The Top Ten Teams Include:

  4. Groton, Massachusetts
  5. Miami, Florida
  6. Truth or Consequences, New Mexico
  7. Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania

  10. Swan River, Manitoba, Canada

Soil Health Awareness Program – NRCS

MASCD Coloring Contest

The AASCD proudly sponsors an coloring contest in association with the Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Districts (MASCD) each Spring. Elementary schools throughout Anne Arundel are invited to participate in the local coloring contest.
